Turn up the heat in these deliciously dark chocolate fudge brownies, with the help of cayenne pepper and cinnamon bark essential oil!
Ingredients
  • ½ cup Butter (1 stick), chopped
  • 8 ounces Dark Chocolate (use your preferred %, I used 8 oz. from Trader Joes Pound Plus Dark Chocolate Bar), chopped
  • ¾ cup All-Purpose Flour OR Better Batter Gluten Free Flour
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (or up to ¼ teaspoon, if you love spicy foods!)
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 2 drops Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil (or 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon)*
Instructions
  1. Prepare a 9x9-inch pan by lining with foil, leaving some overhang on each end; spray pan with non-stick cooking spray; set aside.
  2. Melt chopped Butter and Chocolate in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently. Once melted and smooth, remove chocolate from heat and transfer to a large mixing bowl to cool slightly.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together Flour, Salt, and Cayenne (and ground cinnamon, if using*). Set aside.
  5. Whisk Sugar into melted chocolate. Add Eggs, and whisk very well until completely incorporated, about 1 minute. Finally, whisk in Vanilla Extract and Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil (if using*).
  6. Pour flour mixture into the chocolate mixture and stir with a large spoon or rubber spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Spread brownie batter evenly in prepared baking pan.
  8. Bake for 37-41 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack, and cut into squares.
  10. Store brownies in a tightly sealed container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or in a freezer-safe ziplock bag in the freezer for up to 4 months.
  11. Makes about 20 brownies.
Notes
*You may use Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil OR Ground Cinnamon from your spice rack in this recipe with nearly identical results. If using Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil, add to the wet ingredients while mixing; if using Ground Cinnamon, mix into the dry ingredients, as directed in the recipe instructions
